GOODYEAR, Ariz. – North Dakota State men’s golf opened up the spring semester and the Loyola Intercollegiate on Sunday at the Palm Valley Golf Club. The Bison sit in a tie for seventh in the 19-team field after the first of three rounds over three days.
Josh Galvin led the way for the Bison on day one on the par-72, 7,015-yard course, shooting a -2 round of 70 to sit in a tie for 14th overall. Galvin opened up with consecutive birdies and had four birdies over the first six holes to sit near the top of the leaderboard early. Galvin finished with five birdies and three bogeys in the round.
Ian Simonich sits one shot behind Galvin in a tie for 21st at -1 following an opening round 71. Simonich carded an early eagle, the only one for the Bison on the day, and also had one birdie along with two bogeys in the first round.
Sean Moore and Rylin Petry rounded out the scoring rounds for the Bison on day one, with the duo shooting +1 rounds of 73 to sit in a tie for 45th in the 116-golfer field. Moore recorded two early birdies, while Petry had all four of his birdies over the first nine holes.
Jake Skarperud recorded four birdies over his first eight holes but also recorded a pair of double bogeys on 16 and 17 to shoot a +4 round of 76 in the opening round of his title defense.
Max Wilson, playing as an individual, shot a +3 round of 75 and sits in a tie for 73rd after three birdies and six bogeys in the opening round.
The Bison will get back underway with round two on Monday morning, set to tee off at 8:45 a.m. CT. NDSU is set to tee off on holes 5, 6, and 7 to begin the second round.
