NEW ORLEANS – The North Dakota State women’s basketball team pulled within four points with less than a minute to play before falling short at Tulane, 67-61, on Tuesday night at Devlin Fieldhouse.
After NDSU (6-4) led by as many as 15 points in the first half, Tulane (4-4) answered back starting the third quarter on an 11-0 run to regain the lead, 41-32, with a pair of free throws from Kendall Sneed at the 6:01 mark. Tulane led after three quarters of play, 50-48.
The Greenwave then slowly extended their edge up to nine, 63-54, with a layup from Victora Keenan with 3:09 to play in the fourth quarter. Molly Lenz sparked the Bison with five straight points to cut the edge back down to four, 63-59, with 1:06 play. However, NDSU couldn’t cut the deficit down any further and went on to drop the contest, 67-61.
Marisa Frost posted double figures in scoring for the fifth straight game with a team-high 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field. She also added a game-high five steals with four rebounds, three assists and one block to her stat line. Lenz netted 13 points with three rebounds, while Abby Schulte contributed 11 points with seven rebounds.
As a team, NDSU shot 31.9 percent (22-69) from the field and 84.6 percent (11-13) from the free throw line. The Bison also hauled in a season-high 41 rebounds with Abbie Draper leading the way with a team-high eight.
NDSU will be back in action at Washington on Wednesday, Dec. 18. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. CT
