Vikings CB fed up with Lions hype, eager for Week 18 showdown

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. had his eyes on this week’s Thursday Night Football game at Ford Field, and he wasn’t too pleased with the results.

The Detroit Lions walked away with a 34-31 win over the Green Bay Packers, improving to 12-1 and extending their win streak to 11 games — both franchise bests. Detroit also clinched a playoff berth with the victory.

Murphy told KSTP’s Darren Wolfson on Friday, “Detroit came away with the win. I don’t like that.”

The win also saw the Lions improve to 4-0 in the NFC North, eliminating the Packers from contention for the division title and dealing a blow to the Vikings’ chances.

Murphy wouldn’t answer directly when asked if he would have preferred a Green Bay victory, which would have aided both the Packers and Vikings in the tight division title race.

“I don’t like it, but I’m not liking all the Detroit talk right now. I just keep hearing it over and over,” Murphy said. “So, I’m just over them. I’m over Green Bay, too. But, you know, Detroit, they’re just talking about them too much, and I’m just over that as well.”

In addition to holding the NFL’s best record, the Lions are the odds-on favorite to win Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.

Detroit ranks second in total offense, averaging 347.5 yards per game, and leads the league in scoring with 32.1 points per game.

The Lions and Vikings are set to meet again during Week 18 for the regular season finale. When the teams faced off in Week 7 at U.S. Bank Stadium, Detroit left Minnesota with a 31-29 victory.

“I feel like some plays Green Bay could have done better, but, you know, that’s football. Things happen, and Detroit won the game. We’ll see them soon,” Murphy said.
