ST. LOUIS – North Dakota State running back CharMar Brown swept the Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer and Freshman of the Year awards, headlining a list of 31 student-athletes selected to the MVFC All-Newcomer Team by a vote of the league’s head coaches, communications directors and media members.
Brown was one of five NDSU players named to the All-Newcomer Team. Bison center Trent Fraley, return specialist Jackson Williams, cornerback Anthony Chideme-Alfaro and safety Jaylin Crumby were the other four selections.
A four-time MVFC Newcomer of the Week and Jerry Rice Award finalist, Brown leads all FCS freshman with 965 rushing yards, fifth most overall in the MVFC. He had four 100-yard rushing games including a season-high 126 against Towson.
Brown is the sixth MVFC player to earn both Newcomer and Freshman of the Year honors in the same season, and he is the third NDSU player to do so joining linebacker Jabril Cox (2017) and quarterback Trey Lance (2019).
No. 2 seed North Dakota State (10-2) is scheduled to host No. 15 seed Abilene Christian (9-4) in the second round of the NCAA Division I Football Championship at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome.
